The behavior of others does not have to control you.

When someone close to you—like a partner, spouse, or friend, drinks too much, it’s natural to pull away because creating physical distance is usually the easy part.

But it’s the emotional distance that really gives your soul the breathing room it needs.

And It’s completely normal to want to fix or control someone else’s behavior, especially when you care about them.

The craziest part, is that we even try to control strangers sometimes.

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to stay stuck in that cycle. You can choose to protect your energy by creating healthy boundaries—both physically and emotionally.

And when you’re not sure how, you can ask for guidance; whether from a higher power or just within yourself. That choice alone can bring a surprising amount of peace.

Today’s Affirmation:

I will seek distance whenever I need it today in order to honor my spirit.

A Life of My Own

A Life Of My Own

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own by Karen Casey,— a small but powerful book full of daily reflections, meditations, and prayers, offering practical spiritual guidance for living a clean, sober, and more grounded life.

Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. With over 20 years of experience speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth, she has dedicated her life to helping others. Her own recovery journey began more than 30 years ago in Twelve-Step groups, and she’s deeply passionate about supporting others on the same path.
