How to Take an Honest Look at Yourself Without Being Too Hard on Yourself

Looking honestly at our own behavior is way tougher than pointing out what everyone else is doing wrong.

Most of us have had plenty of practice keeping tabs on others. Though now it’s time to turn that focus inward.

The surprising part is that it’s not all bad.

And when you take the time to do this kind of inventory, you often find some pretty great things about yourself too– things you might have overlooked otherwise.

And no, you don’t have to dive into your entire life story all at once.

That’s overwhelming.

You want to keep it simple.

Maybe just reflect on yesterday or last week.

That’s enough to start seeing patterns.

And if you’re honest about how you treat people, you’ll get a pretty clear picture of who you are — and more often than not, you might actually like what you see.

Today’s Affirmation:

Paying attention to who I am today will give me opportunities to see how I may want to change. I may also see reasons to feel proud.

A Life of My Own

A Life Of My Own

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own by Karen Casey,— a small but powerful book full of daily reflections, meditations, and prayers, offering practical spiritual guidance for living a clean, sober, and more grounded life.

Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. With over 20 years of experience speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth, she has dedicated her life to helping others. Her own recovery journey began more than 30 years ago in Twelve-Step groups, and she’s deeply passionate about supporting others on the same path.
