A Thought for the Day

Leap Essence’s Thought for the Day is a daily meditation for those in recovery or dealing with addiction to alcohol or drugs.

*May 11*

To listen is to hear with one’s heart.

Just being quiet while a friend talks isn’t the same as truly listening.

Our minds can still be loud—thinking about what to say next, judging, drifting off—even when someone’s pouring their heart out.

And for a lot of us, it started when we were kids.

We worried about measuring up.

We were always wondering, “Do they like me?” “Did I say the right thing?”

That overthinking became our default, and we never really learned how to separate what actually matters from what doesn’t.

Our heads got noisy, and it stayed that way.

But listening with your heart? That’s something else. When you really try, you begin to feel what the other person is saying—not just hear it.

And suddenly, your own anxious thoughts quiet down.

Their story starts to teach you something. Their pain or joy starts to shift something inside you.

Being fully present like that—offering real attention and care is enough to bring you the kind of insight you didn’t even know you needed.

Today’s Affirmation:

If a friend shows up needing me today, it’s not random. There’s something in it for both of us—and I trust I’ll get the guidance I need from the moment.

A Life of My Own

A Life Of My Own

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own by Karen Casey,— a small but powerful book full of daily reflections, meditations, and prayers, offering practical spiritual guidance for living a clean, sober, and more grounded life.

Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. With over 20 years of experience speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth, she has dedicated her life to helping others. Her own recovery journey began more than 30 years ago in Twelve-Step groups, and she’s deeply passionate about supporting others on the same path.
