*May 15*

Thinking clearly, sanely, is one of the rewards from working these Twelve Steps.

Looking back at how we handled ourselves during the hardest times with the alcoholics in our lives really shows how far we’ve come.

Back then, we often reacted with resentment, or even revenge, and honestly, we thought we were totally justified.

I mean, we did ask them to stop, right?

But wow, look at how much we’ve learned since then.

We’ve come to understand that alcoholism is a disease—and that it affects us too, not just the person drinking.

Thanks to the Twelve Steps, we’ve learned how to respond with more love and a lot more sanity than we used to.

Now, instead of jumping into chaos, we can pause, talk things over with someone we trust, and often avoid drama altogether.

And that wild emotional rollercoaster from before? Well It doesn’t rule over our lives anymore.

By focusing on our own recovery and letting others focus on theirs, we’ve found real peace and clear thinking. What a gift that is.

Today’s Affirmation:

I will share my gratitude for my sanity with someone else today. Perhaps my sharing will inspire that person to seek a better life too.

A Life of My Own

A Life Of My Own

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own by Karen Casey,— a small but powerful book full of daily reflections, meditations, and prayers, offering practical spiritual guidance for living a clean, sober, and more grounded life.

Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. With over 20 years of experience speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth, she has dedicated her life to helping others. Her own recovery journey began more than 30 years ago in Twelve-Step groups, and she’s deeply passionate about supporting others on the same path.
