The Twelve Steps don’t exist to help us control others—they’re here to help us let go
We created a lot of our own stress by trying to control other people.
When we first joined the Twelve Step program, we honestly believed we were in the right. We thought our efforts to “fix” the situation were reasonable, and even necessary.
Surely others in the group, who had also lived through the chaos of addiction, would understand and back us up.
But learning to let go of control takes real, ongoing effort, It doesn’t happen overnight.
By practicing the first three Steps daily, we begin to build a solid foundation for letting go of our need to control.
And when we finally surrender—trusting a Higher Power to guide both, us and those around us—something inside us begins to shift, and that’s when real change becomes possible.
…
Today’s Affirmation:
I can give up my controlling ways if I’m willing to accept that a Higher Power might know what’s best.

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own by Karen Casey,— a small but powerful book full of daily reflections, meditations, and prayers, offering practical spiritual guidance for living a clean, sober, and more grounded life.
Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. With over 20 years of experience speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth, she has dedicated her life to helping others. Her own recovery journey began more than 30 years ago in Twelve-Step groups, and she’s deeply passionate about supporting others on the same path.
