*May 22*
We can untangle our lives from those of our loved ones.
When addiction hits a family, we often end up carrying other people’s burdens.
Our lives become a nonstop reaction to what everyone else does and feels.
If they were upset, we felt upset.
If they acted out, we scrambled to respond.
And this pattern didn’t just stay at home—it spilled over into how we dealt with others outside the family too!
But here’s the game changer: Setting boundaries.
Learning to respect boundaries—knowing where you end and others begin—is totally possible.
At first, it might have felt impossible because we didn’t even know how to see ourselves as separate people.
Now, though, we can lean on the experiences of others and get support from those who’ve been there.
Lots of people in recovery have faced the same struggles and still managed to move forward.
And guess what? So can we.

Today’s Affirmation:
If I’m ever unsure today about what’s my responsibility and what belongs to someone else, I’ll reach out to my trusted guide for clarity.

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own by Karen Casey,— a small but powerful book full of daily reflections, meditations, and prayers, offering practical spiritual guidance for living a clean, sober, and more grounded life.
Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. With over 20 years of experience speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth, she has dedicated her life to helping others. Her own recovery journey began more than 30 years ago in Twelve-Step groups, and she’s deeply passionate about supporting others on the same path.
