*May 5*
Our purpose is not to get people sober.
We first got into Twelve Step Recovery because we wanted someone close to us to get sober.
We thought that if we just did our part right, they’d stop drinking.
But over time, we’ve learned our part—making real changes in how we think and act.
And even with all that effort, the other person might still be drinking.
The reality is, recovery only changes us, not them.
Living by the Twelve Step principles has given us a new outlook on life. Now, very few situations feel impossible to handle.
We’ve learned how to quiet our minds and listen to our inner guide.
We’ve come to trust the wisdom of sponsors whose programs we admire.
And we’ve realized it’s not our job to control anyone else’s life.
The best part is that we’ve learned that everything is okay.
That feeling of hopelessness has lifted, and we now have hope for our future.
Each new day feels like a fresh start full of promise.

Today’s Affirmation:
I trust that every moment of today will bring me a blessing in some way. The principles of the Twelve Steps will guide me toward a fresh, new perspective.

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own by Karen Casey,— a small but powerful book full of daily reflections, meditations, and prayers, offering practical spiritual guidance for living a clean, sober, and more grounded life.
Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. With over 20 years of experience speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth, she has dedicated her life to helping others. Her own recovery journey began more than 30 years ago in Twelve-Step groups, and she’s deeply passionate about supporting others on the same path.
