*May 9*
When we stand up for ourselves, we take responsibility for our needs.
Knowing what we want in a relationship and being able to say it out loud is not only okay, it’s actually really healthy.
Whether it’s a job, a friendship, or something more… being clear about our needs helps us understand ourselves better and gives others a real chance to know us too.
But for a lot of us, this is a new skill.
We’ve gotten used to letting others decide who we are or what we should want, which made it easier to point fingers when things didn’t work out. The problem is that kind of thinking left us feeling stuck and powerless. Learning to speak up for ourselves is a game changer. It’s empowering and honestly, it can even feel exciting.
Of course, it takes practice. We might stumble a few times trying to stand our ground without coming across as too aggressive. But the more we try, the better we get. And every attempt brings us closer to feeling more confident and in control of our own lives.

Today’s Affirmation:
I will relish my freedom from the lives of loved ones today. I’ll focus on my behavior only.

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own by Karen Casey,— a small but powerful book full of daily reflections, meditations, and prayers, offering practical spiritual guidance for living a clean, sober, and more grounded life.
Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. With over 20 years of experience speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth, she has dedicated her life to helping others. Her own recovery journey began more than 30 years ago in Twelve-Step groups, and she’s deeply passionate about supporting others on the same path.
